Holi celebrations at Atkinson School

Colour run activity on the pitch

The Hindu celebration of Holi marks the beginning of Spring and is representative of the triumph of good over evil. Traditional celebrations across the Asian subcontinent include the sharing of sweets, the playing of music and the throwing of colours.

On Tuesday 3 March we brought the Holi celebrations to the Atkinson School. Traditional Indian sweets were made during cookery lessons in the morning, in English the young people read a text about Holi traditions, and we finished the school day off with a colour run activity on the pitch.

Teachers, staff and managers donned their old clothes to come down, join the young people and take part. Our colleagues in the catering team created a feast of South East Asian cuisine-which was amazing! By the end of the day everyone was covered in coloured powder paint and completely out of breath! After the big clean up we took round the Indian sweets for everyone to try, rounding off the afternoon nicely.

The day was rounded off by our colleagues in the catering team creating a feast of South East Asian cuisine-which was amazing!

Apologies were made to our wonderful cleaning team but there was only one question on everyone’s lips….when can we do it again?!
