How local businesses can get involved

At the Atkinson Secure Children’s Home we hope for support from local businesses to encourage, promote and empower our young people with their future careers.

What do we want to do?

We would like to enhance the opportunities of our disadvantaged young people by:

  • promoting their career opportunities by learning from current career and labour market information
  • allowing them to experience different employment industries and workplaces
  • inspiring them by having positive interactions with successful encounters with employers and employees
  • allowing them to feel included as a member of society by promoting the future and careers by forward planning
  • empowering them to take control of their future, engaging in the careers programme and gain some personal guidance

How does this involve local businesses?

We would like to invite you to attend the Atkinson Secure Children’s Home as a visitor within your specialist field to talk to our young people about:

  • what you or your company do
  • how you got into it
  • what experiences or qualifications got you to where you are now
  • some of your relevant employment experiences or what you would be looking for in employees
  • general advice for getting into your industry sector.

Our young people stay with us on average of around 3-6 months (depending on need) and we notice just how much change and growth can happen within this time, so we understand that your time is precious. We can be flexible on time, day and length of visit.

If this is something that you think your business would be able to support, please feel free to get in touch by emailing atkinsonunit-mailbox@devon.gov.uk or calling 01392 457999 to discuss further.
