Throughout December, the Atkinson students have been to see the pantomime Jack and The Beanstalk at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter. This trip is an integral part of the English curriculum, incorporating a range of skills – listening, following storylines, understanding how traditional stories are retold and reviewing a live performance.
It also offered an opportunity for young people to participate in an enriching experience they may not have had the opportunity to before, and to spend some time away from the Atkinson Home and escaping from the day to day at what can be a stressful time of year.
The Northcott Theatre continues to actively support us by allowing us to pay at group rates, only available to school, in spite of the fact that we do not take a group, this makes what is a fantastic trip out very affordable. Staff from the Atkinson school and care staff have kindly taken the time from their busy days to accompany the young people to these shows and everyone had a great time and enjoyed the show.
