Short-term

Target

Students will have access to an individualised and differentiated curriculum that best suits their needs.

Strategies

SENCo and SMT to review any classroom plans, to ensure that they are SEND-friendly.

Outcome

All students will have access to appropriate learning materials individualised to their needs.

Medium-term

Target

Classrooms that need to be modified should be done so with SPD needs considered.

To increase the use of the new activity and sensory rooms as areas to help students to regulate.

Strategies

SENCo and SMT to review any classroom plans, to ensure that they are SEND friendly.

Outcome

Students will be working in an environment that will support them to better understand and manage their emotions..

Medium-term

Target

That all staff (care and education) feel they can deal with the different disabilities and additional needs of our young people.

Strategies

A rolling programme of INSET and other identified training opportunities for care and education staff on all areas of SEND. This is to be carried out by the SENCo, SMT and CAMHS teams.

Outcome

Staff will feel better able to communicate with and cater for the needs of our young people, the young people will feel listened to and understood, thus reducing stress, and enabling them to engage more in the curriculum.

Time frame

A rolling programme of INSET and other identified training opportunities for care and education staff in all areas of SEND. This is to be carried out by the SENCo, SMT and CAMHS teams.


Long-term

Target

A new home with education facilities to be purpose built, taking into consideration the needs and disabilities of our young people so that we can offer a truly individualised programme of study for all our young people, for them to be able to access education successfully and improve their long-term outcomes.

Strategies

Funding to be applied for and agreed by senior managers and the commissioning team at DCC, plans to be created and a site chosen, that senior managers consult specialist staff as to what would be the most appropriate environment for our young people with additional needs and
disabilities to access education in.

Outcome

The Atkinson Secure Children’s Home will have a fit for purpose building and grounds, to optimise the learning opportunities for our young people.

Within the next five years..
