Official opening of the new building

Baroness Bulter Sloss opens Atkinson wing

On Thursday 4 January 2018, Baroness Butler-Sloss and Richard Edgell, Vice-Chair of Devon County Council formally opened our new purpose-built suite of offices. The building took nearly a year to complete at a cost of £1.2 million. Atkinson now has a purpose-built admission suite for young people, as well as additional meeting rooms for both visitors and for formal meetings. There is also improved office facilities to support staff.

Darryl Freeman, Head of Children’s Social Care, commented:

I was pleased to visit the Atkinson Secure Children’s Home earlier this month to see the new building being opened by Devon’s Baroness Butler-Sloss.

“I was very impressed by the facilities and by the passion and commitment shown by our colleagues working there who I spoke with, and by two of the young people who are currently residents there, that I met.

“Atkinson is a resource that we should rightly be proud of and we’re expecting that Ofsted will be concluding their inspection of the Home shortly and eagerly anticipate their feedback.”
